MARTIN KIELTY

Hello! I’m a full-time writer in Glasgow, Scotland. Most of my output is connected with popular culture – I’ve written several non-fiction books on rock and pop history. I’m also an author of historic fiction, along with writing for magazines, newspapers, radio, TV and public relations clients. I’m a former newspaper journalist who threw it all away for the rock’n’roll lifestyle. I managed the Sensational Alex Harvey Band and The Rezillos in the 2000s and went on to a limited but fun career as a drummer, before becoming a full-time rock journalist. Now I’m a member of FingerHalo, starring Jo Callis (The Human League, The Rezillos) and I spend my weekends discovering the best real ale across Britain in a purple VW campervan with my wife Claire. The two cats stay at home.

FINGERHALO

Bowie: Blackstar in the night sky

His influence had always been there – I don’t think there are many creatives who’ll say otherwise – but always more in the background, even if it loomed larger than I often realised. “And Bowie, of course,” you’d say when discussing influences. […]

So you didn’t like my book?

How do you think I feel? I had to fuckin’ write it. But go on – let the world know how you feel. Write a wee review on its Amazon and Lulu product pages. You see, those things are life-blood in the publishing world. Decisions are made by publishers, agents, commissioning editors – and, yes, readers – on their […]

The Glasgow Effect?

Ellie Harrison’s year-long “action research project” is grabbing a lot of attention – not least because Creative Scotland have decided that among the thousands of funding applications they receive every year, hers is worthy of £15,000 in support. Ellie – who describes herself as a Glasgow-based artist and activist – says that during her “durational […]
